Description
The artwork you’re observing is one of Marmaris’ wall frames, featuring calligraphy with a four-line inscription and the Ayat al-Kursi (a verse from the Quran). The execution technique for this frame is known as “Malli” calligraphy, which is a distinctly Iranian art form. In fact, Iranian artists have innovatively incorporated Arabic calligraphy into their work to display verses and passages from the Quran. This particular frame was executed by the skilled hands of artist Elham Noori, one of the top practitioners of the Malli style in Isfahan. One of the captivating features of this frame is the natural veining of the marble, which is visible in the corners. Additionally, there’s an intricate decorative pattern (tazhib) designed by the artist above each verse. The combination of this beautiful script, the natural stone veining, and the tazhib design transforms this product into a unique and exquisite wall artwork.
